Sis, You Are Not “Too Much”: Reclaiming Your Voice and Power

Introduction

How many times have you been told:
“You’re too loud.”
“You’re too sensitive.”
“You’re doing too much.”

Black women are often told to shrink — to soften our voices, to swallow our pain, to dim our light so others can feel comfortable. But here’s the truth:
You are not too much. You are power in motion.

In this post, we’ll explore how to step into your truth unapologetically, release the need for external validation, and empower your mindset to match the queen energy within you.

1. The Power of Language: Watch How You Speak to Yourself

Empowerment begins with your inner voice.

  • Do you say things like “I’m not good enough,” “I always mess up,” or “I could never do that”?
  • These aren’t facts. They’re internalized scripts passed down from pain, patriarchy, and pressure.

Try this instead:

  • “I trust myself to figure things out.”
  • “I am becoming the woman I once needed.”
  • “Every day I show up, I win.”

📝 Empowerment Practice: Start a daily “Power Thought” journal. One affirmation a day, every morning.

2. Stop Shrinking to Fit Rooms You’ve Outgrown

If the room you’re in doesn’t allow your full expression, it’s not the right room.
You were not created to be palatable. You were created to be impactful.
So speak up. Show up. Even if your voice shakes.

Release the guilt of being seen. You don’t owe the world your silence — you owe yourself your freedom.

3. Boundaries Are Not Walls — They’re Bridges to Empowerment

A woman without boundaries will burn herself out trying to prove her worth.

Start small:

  • Say no without over-explaining.
  • Create “quiet hours” for yourself.
  • Honor your energy the way you’d protect a child.

🧿 Reminder: You teach people how to treat you by what you allow and what you walk away from.

4. Surround Yourself with Mirror Energy

You need people who reflect your power back to you — not your fears.

  • Find a circle of women who speak life, not gossip.
  • Listen to podcasts, read books, and attend events that elevate your mindset.

You become what you consume. Choose wisely.

5. Empowerment Isn’t Loud — It’s Rooted

You don’t have to perform strength.
Empowerment is quiet sometimes. It’s making the hard decisions. Choosing rest. Owning your truth. Walking away. Starting over.

It’s not perfection — it’s progress with purpose.

Closing Words

Sis, you are not “too much.”
You are exactly who you were born to be — a radiant, powerful, soft, bold, and beautiful force.

Stop waiting for permission.
Take up space.
Walk in rooms like you belong there — because you do.
